Volunteer

Are you interested in volunteering with LGBTOUT? As an entirely volunteer-run organization, volunteers are the face of diversity on campus. There are several areas in which you can volunteer with LGBTOUT: at the Drop-in Centre, as one of the seven executive members, and on an as-needed basis as a volunteer or planner for special events.

Drop-in Centre: Our Drop-in Centre is staffed by volunteers that, at the beginning of each term, attend a training session covering topics such as sex positivity, conflict resolution, diversity, sensitivity, and other topics relating to issues faced by the queer community. Most of our Drop-in Centre volunteers are first-time volunteers, therefore individuals inexperienced in community volunteering/involvement are welcomed. If you are interested in becoming a drop-in centre volunteer you can attend the training/ info session in September or early October (exact date to be announced on our site and listserv at a later date). If you would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer, feel free to contact one of our executives listed on our contact page.

Executive Membership: Early in the school year the Exec-at-large is voted upon during an election open to all students at the university. The other six executives are elected towards the end of each school year, also in an open election. The Executive is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the group including the Drop-in Centre, training, workshops, and the organization of special events. To find out more about the executive positions, interested individuals are encouraged to attend our general meetings throughout the year as well as our special executive election meetings.
